About the Event

This face to face Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England course qualifies you as a Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider®).

As a MHFAider® you will be able to:

  • Recognise those that may be experienceing poor mental health and provide them with first-level support and early intervention
  • Encourage a person to identify and access sources of proffessional help and other supports
  • Practice active listening and empathy
  • Have a conversation with improved mental health literacy around language and stigma
  • Discuss the MHFAider® role in depth, including boundaries and confidentiality
  • Practice self-care
  • Know how to use the MHFAider Support App®
  • Know how to access a dedicated text support service provided by Shout

MHFA England value this course at £330 per person. We have subsidised places and early bird booking prices available but these are limited and we expect them to sell out fast, book now to avoid dissapointment.

Course Format

This is a online based course delivered by your instructor Adrian Thomas

  • Learning takes place through four live training sessions, spread across two weeks. See course structure section below for more detail
  • Each session is built around our Mental Health First Aid action plan
  • We limit numbers to 16 people per course so that the instructor can keep people safe and supported while they learn

Online sessions will run on;

Day 1: Wednesday 19th July 2023 09:00-13:00

Day 2 Thuirsday 20th July 2023 09:00-13:00

Day 3: Wednesday 26th July 2023 09:00-13:00

Day 4: Thursday 27th July 2023 09:00-13:00

Everyone who completes the course gets:

  • A certificate of attendance to say you are a MHFAider®
  • A digital manual to refer to whenever you need it
  • Three year access to the MHFAider Support App®. (Further access can be mainteined by completing MHFA England Refresher courses)
  • A workbook including a helpful toolkit to support your own mental health

  • Frame of Reference
  • The Stress Container
  • Film and discussion
  • Session 1 quiz

Session 2:

  • What influences mental health?
  • The Mental Health Continuum
  • Applying ALGEE to case studies
  • What is Anxiety?
  • Film and discussion
  • What is a traumatic event?
  • Active listening and empathy
  • What are eating disorders?
  • What is self-harm?
  • What is substance misuse?
  • MHFA conversation practice

Session 3

  • Applying ALGEE to case studies
  • What is depression?
  • What is suicide?
  • What is psychosis?
  • Film and Discussion
  • MHFA conversation practice

Session 4

  • Recovery and lived experience
  • Applying ALGEE to case studies
  • Film and discussion
  • Boundaries in the MHFAider® role
  • Session 4 quiz

  • Moving forward in your MHFAider® role and your MHFA action plan
